If students would like to come to school in costume to celebrate Halloween, costumes must meet the following guidelines:
Be Respectful
Avoid stereotypes. Be racially sensitive and culturally appropriate. Students may not dress as an ethnic or cultural group (i.e., a Mexican, a Native American, etc.). Culture is not a costume. Also, refrain from dressing up as Native Americans (i.e., Pocahontas, Sacagawea, Sitting Bull, etc.). Skin color must not be altered in any way.
Be Responsible
Recognize that students in a wide age range will see the costumes. Costumes should be family friendly. Masks may not be worn. Costumes may not be gory or threatening. Costume makeup should be minimal and appropriate for an elementary school setting.
Be Safe
No weapons, real or pretend, are allowed. Crowns or hats may be worn.
Be Kind
Costumes should be fun and exciting, not political or offensive. Costumes should not target, mock, or demean others.
Be Successful
Following our Canyon Creek expectations helps ensure all students and staff have a wonderful day together.
Important Notes
Students may dress as fictional characters if they follow the guidelines above.
If a student chooses to wear an inflatable or blow-up costume, their face must remain visible.
On the day of the celebration, costumes will be checked to ensure they meet school expectations.
🎃 Have a Safe, Kind, Respectful, Responsible, and Successful Halloween! 🎃
